Gulfport was incorporated on July 28, 1898. The harbor was completed soon after in 1902, turning the town into a functioning seaport.

From humble beginnings as a lumber and port city, Gulfport has evolved into the diversified community it is today.

With about 6.7 miles of man-made white sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, Gulfport is currently one of the fastest growing areas in Mississippi.
